Event Description
WFTN's "Strength in Support" Charity Function
Event Program
The forest and timber industry is a male dominated industry, women comprise approximately 5% of the workforce. The Women in Forests and Timber Network (WFTN) is a forum for women in our industry to meet, exchange ideas and ensure their voices are heard.
WFTN's "Strength in Support" Afternoon Cocktails Function is being held to recognise the contributions of the women in our industry and to celebrate their achievements and to support their access to skills and professional development opportunities.
This event will raise money for The Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS). The BDVS aligns withthe WFTN as both organisations have a similar mission - empowering and supporting women in the workplace and in their personal lives. This event provides an opportunity for women in the industry to network and support each other. The invitation to attend the event is extended to all employers, family and friends of women working in the forest and timber industry - men and women.
The "Strength in Support" Function complements the hold quarterly WFTN QLD networking
breakfasts and annual field trip. Many women in the forest and timber industry work
in financial and administration roles and in remote areas and are unable to attend events held
during working hours and too far away. This often compounds a sense of isolation. A weekend
networking event provides equal opportunity for all WFTN members and supporters to participate.
About Brisbane Domestic Violence Service
The Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS) is a dedicated 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week, domestic and family violence support service operated by Micah Projects.
We provide a free and confidential service for people in the Brisbane Metropolitan area
who are affected by domestic and family violence, while also working to prevent and end
domestic and family violence by increasing awareness, prevention and individual and
community responses.
The goal of our service is to empower women, their children and/or any person
experiencing violence in an intimate relationship or family to live free from domestic and
family violence, to feel safe in their own home, to ensure children can grow and develop
in safe, secure environments and to support recovery from the impacts of violence and
trauma
